- How were the CEE Legal Matters CEE Deal of the Year Award winners chosen?
The CEE Deal of the Year Awards are chosen through a unique two-tiered process. First, all firms are encouraged to submit deals for consideration, and all deals that meet basic qualifying criteria about dates and kind are forward to our Shortlist Panels, consisting of five prominent legal practitioners in each CEE market in which a minimum of three submissions have been received. Once their votes are received and calculated, the three deals receiving the most votes in each qualifying market are forwarded on to the Final Selection Committee — a 15-20 person jury consisting of regional experts from across CEE. Members of the Final Selection Committee are not allowed to vote in markets where deals that their own firms worked on are shortlisted, nor in the specific markets where they are based. Once their ballots are received in mid-February, the votes are calculated and winners identified. The first announcement of winners comes at the CEE Legal Matters Annual Banquet, and advance information about the results of the voting is not provided to any firms working on deals under consideration.
